Chintz

Chintz is a firm, closely woven, plain weave fabric with high-twist warp yarns and coarser, loosely twisted filling yarns. The fabric is often printed with large flowers on a solid, light background. It can be made from cotton, polyester, rayon or blends. Chintz has a highly lustrous sheen applied by one of two methods: 1) A nondurable glaze of wax and starch applied with friction or hot calendars (rollers); 2) A durable glaze of a urea or melamine resin is applied and cured.
